About Cheryl: I’ve spent most of my professional career starting companies and in keeping with Valentine’s spirit, I can honestly say that I love it – every bit of it (except maybe paperwork and paying taxes). I enjoy working hard and seeing results. The best part of my professional career has been the opportunity to work with great people – a diverse group of partners, employees, suppliers and clients. I consider many of these people to be my closest friends.
I studied biomedical engineering at Catholic University in Washington DC. My course of study gave me a set of problem solving skills that I use every day. My first job out of college was working for IBM. I got to travel around the world and saw many great places. It was a great experience and I realized there is no better country in the world than the USA.
Nine years ago, I traded the beautiful skyline of New York City for the fabulous shores of Lake Michigan. I left a city of millions for a city of 7,000. It surprises me how much I enjoy my quiet life on the bay (OK, truth be told, I miss the restaurant options NY offers).
City: The beautiful shores of Lake Michigan in Petoskey, MI
Family: Husband: Roger and son: Spencer (11)
Food favorites: Lobster, Dungeness crab, cushi, chicken and dumplings. I love trying anything new.
Drink: Chai tea
Vegetable: Asparagus and artichokes
Fruit: Honeyscrisp apples (grown in Michigan) and mangoes
Cuisine: Japanese
Meal: My all-time favorite meal is Shabu-Shabu. Basically, it is the Japanese version of fondue (which I also love). Meat, vegetables and rice noodles are cooked in pot of hot broth and then dipped in sauces and eaten. YUM!
Hobbies: I am a potter and a member of a local pottery club and the Crooked Tree Arts Center. It is a great stress reliever for me and I never show up empty-handed to a party.
I also play golf. I am in a league on Thursdays that plays Thursday morning in the summer. Just to make sure I don’t miss a day, I already have days blocked out in Outlook, so there is no chance booking something over it.
How would you spend your ideal day? On a family vacation. I love to travel and explore new cities and other places, like national parks and museums. I also like to walk on city streets (I’ve been out NY City for 9 years, but still love the vibe of a concrete jungle)
What is your favorite Valentine’s Day treat? Roger and I were married on Valentine’s Day, so my favorite treat is having a romantic dinner with him and celebrating our love. Sometime we invite another couple to join us at dinner. This year we are celebrating 12 years!
Top tip for healthy eating: Keep things simple. Healthy eating should not have be hard.
Best part of being a mom: I like the snuggle time! I also like helping my son learn and achieve new things. Whether it’s helping studying for a test, volleying a tennis ball, driving golf balls at the range, teach him to cook or do laundry – it is all fun for me.
Favorite Fresh Baby product: OK, I like them all. I can’t just pick just one – they’re like my kids – they have their strengths and I just can’t choose between them!
